
Home School Connection April Suggested Activities
Themes: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Springtime
Language & Literacy:
- Talk with your child about trash and garbage. Help raise your child’s awareness of the kinds of trash and garbage your family creates each day. If you dispose of your trash at a dump or landfill, take your child along to see where the trash goes. Borrow some library books about trash, garbage, and recycling. Discuss the topics and details from the books.
Writing Skills:
- Practice writing your first and last name on the attached paper.
- Practice writing your phone number and address on additional pages.
- Practice writing the new vocabulary associated with recycling.
Cutting Skills: ***Remember THUMBS UP***
- Explore different magazines or newspapers, then cut out pictures of different objects that are recyclable and paste them on the following page.
- Cut out the picture of a flower and paste it on the following page. Decorate as you wish.
Gross Motor Skills:
- Continue to practice zippering your jacket and buttoning your sweater or coat.
- Create an exercise plan with your family and write down the exercises you completed.
- Play a game of bowling, using recyclable bottles as a family. Draw a picture of the event. (You can also incorporate math by practicing writing subtraction number sentences while bowling.)
Math Skills:
- Practice counting the recyclable items found at your home. Illustrate the items and write the number of each item below your child’s illustration.
- If you recycle at home, help your child take responsibility for sorting items into your family’s recycling bins.
